Since 2000 Julie Jurgens has composed and performed honest songs that draw from her personal and family experiences with poverty, mental illness, domestic violence and the universal need for love and a sense of belonging. Never one to flinch from difficult topics, she also is adept at finding the dark humor in life's most troubling situations, and uses her storytelling ability to add context and contrast to her musical performances.
Julie also loves to put together quirky musical events. Starting in 2011 she began curating "tribute nights" that featured a wide range of Chicago's best performers, and tackled such ambitious projects such as performing "Rubber Soul" and "Pet Sounds" in their entirety in one evening. Julie's shows are held together by her overarching vision and her skills as a host. Injecting storytelling and stand up comedy between the acts keeps the night rolling and acts as a palate cleanser between performers.
Julie is currently looking to take her Tribute Nights to new venues. If you'd like to work with her, let her know.
